TeiXXeira: Glover KOs Bader for 20th Straight Win - UFC Fight Night Main Event Results

Read on for UFC Fight Night main event results...

Light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira got his 20th consecutive victory the hard way in the main event of UFC Fight Night at the Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, surviving a knockdown at the hands of Ryan Bader to knock his foe out seconds later and put himself directly in line for a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title Jon Jones will defend against Alexander Gustafsson on September 21st.

“This was a good wake up call,” said Teixeira, who is unbeaten in five UFC outings. “To tell you the truth, I wasn’t happy with this fight, and it disappointed me that he was able to knock me down, but I’m going to train more, and I’m telling you, this belt is going to be mine. It doesn’t matter if it’s Jon Jones or (Alexander) Gustafsson, it’s mine.”

Bader immediately sought a takedown to begin the bout, and when that didn’t work, he swung for the fences with an overhand right. Teixeira responded with a takedown attempt of his own, with Bader trying to sink in a guillotine choke in the process. Following that furious start, Teixeira got a quick takedown, but when the two rose, there was a stalemate against the cage. After breaking the two exchanged punches and kicks at a measured pace, with a short left hook producing a flash knockdown for Bader. Teixeira rose quickly, and a right-left put Bader on the floor, and this was no flash knockdown. And while Bader covered up, Teixeira unleashed several unanswered shots, with referee Herb Dean stepping in to call the bout at 2:55 of the first round.

“He was able to give me a punch and make me fall back down, but I knew exactly what was happening, and I was able to use that as an opportunity for me,” said the 33-year-old Teixeira.

With the win, Rio de Janeiro’s Teixeira improves to 22-2; Arizona’s Bader falls to 16-4.
