DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY OF TRAINING: Working with all the best fighters in the world at American Top Team. Training at least twice daily in wrestling, boxing, Muay Thai, and of course BJJ.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training for fighting in 2001. I had always been a fan of the sport since UFC 2, when I saw Royce Gracie run through the competition. Seeing Dan Severn enter the mix really sparked my interest and at least at the time, I thought if someone could mix their strengths they would make a great fighter. Ultimately I still believe the same thing and have tried to accomplish that.
What ranks and titles have you held? Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. UFC Veteran, The Ultimate Fighter Veteran, Absolute Fighting Championship Veteran, King Of The Cage Veteran, ISCF Veteran, The FightParty Veteran, NAGA Champion, Planet Submission Absolute Champion,
Kimura Grappling Absolute Champion
Do you have any heroes? My mother is my greatest hero. I could have been a little easier on her growing up and every day I try to remember that and treat her the very best I can.
What is your favorite technique? I love every technique involved in fighting, from a great slam to a slick submission to a huge overhand right. I think what I do best is the Kimura.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Fighting in the UFC means a great chapter in my life; certainly the chapter most read up to this point.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I went to college for a degree in education. I left school early to pursue a career in computer programming. I found ultimate fighting along the way and have not looked back.
What was your job before you started fighting? I have done a variety of computer related jobs including programming, graphic design, and both online and regional marketing.
